Navigating the Original Grant Patent System in Hong Kong - Banner

Dear Sir / Madam,

[HKTISC IP Training]

Navigating the Original Grant

Patent System in Hong Kong

About the Event:

The Original Grant Patent (OGP) system was launched in Hong Kong in 2019. It provides a direct filing route for standard patent protection and enables applicants to obtain a global priority date quickly and conveniently. However, a lack of familiarity among local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and innovators prevent them from fully capitalising on the system’s benefits in cost, speed and quality throughout patent prosecution. In addition, recent policy updates—such as Patent Box tax incentives, the deferral of OGP formality examination and the Pilot Patent Valuation Support Scheme—may not yet be widely understood or fully leveraged.

This training offers a concise overview of Hong Kong’s patent system, the advantages of pursuing a Standard Patent (Original Grant), and the overall OGP examination process. Our speaker, a Senior Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Department, will guide participants through the OGP application procedure—including formal requirements, substantive examination, and how to craft effective responses to examination notices. He will also outline new Government initiatives and discuss how to use them strategically: when to defer formality examination, how to align your intellectual property (IP) with Patent Box tax incentives, and how to leverage the Pilot Patent Valuation Support Scheme to obtain financing.

Key Topics:

  • Overview of the Hong Kong patent system
  • OGP application procedure
  • New initiatives for patent protection

Join us to unlock Hong Kong’s OGP advantages and use the latest initiatives to power your patent protection.
