Trainings on Regulation of Disposable Plastic Tableware and Other Plastic Products

The Product Eco-Responsibility (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 related to the regulation of disposable plastic tableware and other plastic products was passed by the Legislative Council on 18th October 2023. To allow the trade to get prepared, the Government has implemented the first-phase regulation from 22 April 2024 (i.e. Earth Day). The first-phase regulation includes prohibition of selling disposable plastic tableware and prohibition of providing nine types of disposable plastic tableware at catering premises to customers, as well as regulation of manufacturing, selling, and distributing of a series of disposable plastic products. 

To facilitate the trade's preparation for the new regulation of disposable plastic products, the Environmental Protection Department (“EPD”) has commissioned the Hong Kong Productivity Council ("HKPC") to arrange a series of briefing sessions to provide details of regulation, including the regulatory framework, statutory requirements, alternative solutions, penalties, and case sharing, aiming to help the trade to get prepared for the implementation of the new regulation.
