In recent years, cybersecurity has become a critical and talent-scarce field within IT, with roles like "Penetration Tester", "Ethical Hacker", and "Red Team Operator" in high demand. These positions require expertise in programming, cryptography, and application systems, along with a hacker's mindset to identify and patch vulnerabilities quickly. Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions are designed to train these skills by having participants find hidden vulnerabilities in simulated environments to capture "flags" and earn points.
"HKCERT Capture The Flag 2024", organised by the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), is in its fifth edition and is one of Hong Kong's largest cybersecurity competitions. It features four categories: Secondary School, Tertiary, Open, and International. The event also includes workshops and sharing sessions to teach skills like programming, cryptography, and digital forensics, fostering creative thinking and preparing participants for future challenges.
